WHAT WOULD YOU THINK?

Imagine…..

You’ve just gotten home from work, settled in with a belly full of dinner, and decide to turn on the evening news. You tune in to your news station of choice and watch the old familiar news anchors muddle thru their list of stories from the day. As you watch and listen.....

“A group of about 500 active duty and veteran Russian military personnel marched on Moscow today supporting a marginalized political candidate for President and symbolically turning their backs on the current political leadership in power. This small Army of Russian soldiers observed about 8 minutes of a silent salute to their comrades who have taken their own lives under the Russian government’s recent foreign policy, and another 21 minutes of silent prayer for their other fallen comrades. The formation of marchers were joined by several hundreds more supporters crying loud shouts of opposition to the current regime, the corrupt banking system, and abuses of human rights and civil liberties.”
The video clips of the event reveal well over a thousand supporters holding many various signs supporting an opposition candidate for Russian President, and critical of many government agencies and institutions they claim are abusing government authority. The demonstration footage shows people from all different backgrounds and walks of life standing in support of the soldiers who are marching to the drumbeat of cries for a revolution. Average folks take turns on stage to chronicle the abuses of power by their own government, and condemning the illegal actions of the Russian government which they say have infringed on the rights of the people.
If this were a breaking story about Russia that was being shown in the United States, what would you think was happening in Russia? What would you think was about to happen in Russia? What if you found out that Russian media barely mentioned a peep about it on their own news channels, and the Russian people only had social media via the internet or a single American news outlet to find out about the story? What would you think?
Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot…..

On President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 20th of 2012, approximately 500 active duty and veteran American soldiers DID march on the Obama White House in the U.S. capital. Several hundreds of other supporters DID join us as we marched to the cadence of Legalize the Constitution, End the Fed, End the Wars, & President Paul, etc. We DID turn our backs on the Obama administration in front of the White House and pay tribute to our fallen comrades who have died under the failed foreign policy and lack of leadership of the Obama regime. There WERE multitudes of signs condemning government abuses of power regarding everything from the tax code, the TSA, and the ATF - to Obamacare, endless world policing /nation-building militaristic imperialism, and the Federal Reserve Bank. There WERE lots of common folk who took to the stage and microphones to chronicle the abuses of power by our current federal government, and to condemn the illegal actions of America’s current political aristocracy.
Did you catch this event on CNN, FOX, NBC, or any other mainstream media outlets? No. They apparently didn’t find it newsworthy. But, of course, if it wasn’t shown on tv, it didn’t really happen, right? Is that okay with you? The only references this writer has been aware of in anything even closely resembling mainstream coverage came in a blurb on The Drudge Report which was only posted about half of one day, and a botched blip on the internet by an ABC source which grossly misreported the numbers of attendees as minimal. They later did retract their report of “dozens” of supporters to the true “hundreds” who were actually there. This, in spite of the fact that the event was announced with less than 2 months to prepare and open warnings by the U.S. military for service-members not to participate in the event. In fact, it was the Russian Television station that did any kind of real coverage of the event at all. Imagine that…..

If you were a Russian citizen aware of the Veterans for Ron Paul march on Obama’s White House, what would you think? If you knew that furthermore, only a Russian tv news station had picked up the story as the American media ignored it, what would you think was happening in America? If the shoe was on the other foot, what would you think?
